Version 2

Here is a second version of an earlier drawing that I wasn't happy with (you may need to blow it up to get the full effect). The last one got far too muddled. In my mind it was somehow both too hard edged and too soft at the same time--not sure how I managed that but I didn't like what I ended up with. So I threw all the layers away, except the base sketch, and began again.

It is clearly a Sophie Jodoin rip off--but like I've heard many times, only steal from the best. Her work is really fantastic, it was a great exercise to try to mimic her style. Although I fell far short of her level of subtlety, I like this version a lot better...maybe I can finally move on and start something new!

Your work is so powerful. I liked the looseness and dramatic imagery in this piece. Maybe as artists we can all learn to ease up on our own critiques of our work. And you're only at this for 8 years- very impressive!

The amateur imitates; the professional steals.
