NBA Playoffs Illustration

I created this illustration for the today's (Friday April 15th) Wall Street Journal. The article compares each team to a mode of transportation -- it was a fun assignment!

Book Cover Awards

Outdoor Life Bear Attack Illustrations

Process work-- Gouache sketches

These sketches are from a job last fall that I thought I'd scan and post before I gave them away. They were done as little warm-ups-- 2.5 x 3.5 inch paintings that I try to finish in about 30-45 minutes. I kind of like the result because working this way keeps me from getting hung up on details and forces me to boil the pictures down to the essentials. There isn't much detail, but maybe the detail isn't necessary for a successful picture? I wish I had the courage to work this directly on a "finished" piece... hopefully someday I'll get there...
