Illustration Friday: Extremes

This is an example of just having a single word in mind (in this case "Extremes") and seeing where it takes you. This piece is a little disturbing to me because it started as a self-portrait but in the end I think it feels more like a vampire version of the Joker. I blame this interpretation of myself on the fact that Halloween is around the corner.

Very nice work. What tools were using on this. Also wondering what tools you were using on some of the other nice work on your blog.

Thanks for the comments...I appreciate it.

To answer the question about tools, I am using pretty basic materials. I usually start with a pencil drawing and then ink over it with a variety of black markers. I try to use broader, partially dried-out markers so the drawing retains some life. Once it is in a good spot I scan it and bring it into Photoshop where I draw over the top of the scan until it feels finished. I use some custom brushes, but mainly I just use the brushes that come with Photoshop at varying weights and opacities.

Does that answer your question? If you want I can elaborate further....

Nice, creepy image, I like how dark it is and the facial expression is great!
