Process work-- Gouache sketches

These sketches are from a job last fall that I thought I'd scan and post before I gave them away. They were done as little warm-ups-- 2.5 x 3.5 inch paintings that I try to finish in about 30-45 minutes. I kind of like the result because working this way keeps me from getting hung up on details and forces me to boil the pictures down to the essentials. There isn't much detail, but maybe the detail isn't necessary for a successful picture? I wish I had the courage to work this directly on a "finished" piece... hopefully someday I'll get there...

dude! great job on these! true, they don't have a ton of detail but it definitely gives the impression that they're there, and they actually feel like larger finished paintings.

Charlie-
Those are Great! I'd would have thought them to be "finished pieces". They are successful PAINTINGS!
